As you are probably aware, the 2014 MTV Movie Awards are a mere four days away. One of our favorite categories, especially in a year like this when the competition is so fierce, is Best On-Screen Transformation. To underscore just how incredible these five transformations are, we made GIFs morphing them from their normal, IRL selves into their cinematic alter-egos. Be warned: They're totally mesmerizing. Writing this post took me an extra 20 minutes because I kept watching Orlando Bloom change into Legolas. Now that it's finished, I will resume my watching.
JARED LETO INTO RAYON IN 'DALLAS BUYERS CLUB'

For his role in Dallas Buyers Club, Jared Leto lost 30 pounds and lived as his character, Rayon. As you can see in the GIF, his face grew thinner, he lost his beard and eyebrows, and became an expert at contouring. Whether the world's most perfect ombre is under that cap, we may never know.
MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY INTO RON WOODROOF IN 'DALLAS BUYERS CLUB'

Like his Dallas Buyers Club costar, Matthew McConaughey dropped a significant amount of weight to play AIDS patient and unlikely activist Ron Woodruff. Matthew didn't have to wax his eyebrows, but he did grow out his hair and kept a well-maintained mustache. Perhaps the most alarming part of his transformation, though, is his pale skin—we're just so used to a very tan McConaughey.
ELIZABETH BANKS INTO EFFIE TRINKET IN 'THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE'

As the only woman in the category and the only previous Best On-Screen Transformation winner, Elizabeth Banks has a lot invested in this race. Her transformation into Effie Trinket requires hours of makeup, elaborate wigs, and, of course, over-the-top costumes. She said in an interview that it took two-and-a-half hours for her to turn into Effie every day, which is a lot of time. You could watch
CHRISTIAN BALE INTO IRVING ROSENFELD IN 'AMERICAN HUSTLE'

Christian Bale, obviously, is the king of transformations. He once lost over 60 pounds for his role in The Machinist, and for American Hustle, he gained 40 pounds in two months. Irving's elaborate combover also plays a big role in the movie—the entire opening scene is dedicated to it. Finally, when talking about Christian Bale and transformations, one cannot forget that the dude has a Scottish accent. Next year I petition for a Best Audible Transformation category.
ORLANDO BLOOM INTO LEGOLAS IN 'THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG'

To become Legolas in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Orlando Bloom had to exchange his dark features for light ones. His typically curly brown hair became long, straight, and white, and his dark eyes turned blue. He also has a perfectly executed undercut braid which I would like a tutorial on. Teach me your ways, Legolas!
There's still time to vote for your favorite On-Screen Transformation and a grip of other Movie Awards categories, so get to it and we'll see you back here on Sunday!
